The Civic Museum was established on the initiative of Antonio Cerutti and his archaeological group which discovered a series of archaeological finds which then became the first nucleus of this museum collection.
The refurbished installation has its headquarters on the ground floor of the Cultural Centre of the municipality of Ragogna. The naturalistic section is concerned with the geomorphological analysis related to the morainic amphitheatre of the Tagliamento River, of which various aspects are taken into consideration.
There is then a description of the ecosystem of the Tagliamento River and the Ragogna Lake, illustrated through educational panels, reconstructions of habitats and dioramas.
The archaeological section opens up with a historical reconstruction illustrated by educational panels, in which the evolution of man, starting from his first appearance on the earth, is described.
The actual exhibition, which covers a temporal span that goes from the recent Mesolithic to the ancient Neolithic, from the Roman period up until the high Middle Ages, is of particular value. Amongst the most interesting pieces, one can find a series of stone lithic tools discovered in the countryside surrounding the Lake of Ragogna, a polished axe in serpentine stone, a Roman era fibula, some Lombard bas-reliefs, and an interesting collection of coins that stretch from the Roman period to the period of the Republic of Venice.
