The distinctive trait of the Museums/Collections of historical character is that the whole or part of the collection is made up of historical objects or ruins, memorials, archives, military collections and Museums/Collections dedicated to historical characters. |

Archaeological. The purpose of these Museums/Collections is that of presenting the historical development of a region, village or province within a limited time period or otherwise through the centuries. The distinctive trait of the Museums/Collections of archaeological character is that whole or part of the collection is the fruit of archaeological digs. |

Ethnographic and Anthropological. Museums/Collections that preserve finds of the culture, social structure, beliefs, customs and traditional arts. |

Scientific and Technological. Museums/Collections of science and technology, dedicated to one or more exact sciences or to technology. |

Naturalistic. Museums/Collections that handle one or more subjects relating to various disciplines such as biology, geology, botany, zoology, palaeontology or ecology. |

Artistic. Museums/Collections for the exhibition of works of art and applied arts. Belonging to this group are the museums/collections that exhibit sculptures, painting galleries, museums/collections of photography and cinematography, and the museums/collections of architecture, permanent exhibition included. |
