Hosted in the Tommasi Leschiutta palace, a little distance from the remains of the Roman Forum, the “Iulium Carnicum” Archaeological Civic Museum offers the definitive location for the numerous finds discovered thanks to systematic investigations or to finds in the area of Zuglio and Carnia.
On the ground floor, in the hall dedicated to prehistory and proto history, specimens in metal and ceramics are found dating back to the Bronze and Iron ages originating from various localities in Carnia.
The main section of the museum, hosted in two halls on the first floor, is dedicated to the discoveries made since the 1800s in Zuglio.
The first hall hosts the materials found during the digs in the area of the Forum, such as the reproduction of a famous male portrait in bronze (the original is preserved in the National Archaeological Museum in Cividale del Friuli) found in the civil basilica.
The last floor of the museum is also concerned with the story of Iulium Carnicum. In particular, what is illustrated is the religious and commercial life of the ancient centre, whilst the final part of the route is dedicated to the Zuglio of the late ancient, medieval and Renaissance eras.
